SUBJECT: Turn -out Gear Purchase
In the FY14/15 Fire Department budget the department budgeted $38,000.00 to
purchase eighteen sets of Turn -out Gear (firefighting coat and pant). These are being
purchased to be the second set of turn -out gear for all department firefighters. The
need for a second set of turn -out gear is necessitated in the fact that after every fire it is
required to have all gear decontaminated which often times includes washing and
drying of the gear. This potentially place the gear out of service for up to 24 hours. In
addition if a piece of gear is damaged or in some other fashion put out of service by
having a second set this allows a firefighter to continue to perform his or her firefighting
duties.
