RESOLUTION NO. 2015 -22
A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENAI, ALASKA, AWARDING AN
AGREEMENT FOR VIP DRIVE PAVING LID 2015.
WHEREAS, the following bid was received on March 23, 2015;

and,
WHEREAS, Alaska Road Builders, Inc. is the only responsive bid; and,
WHEREAS, Alaska Road Builders, Inc.'s bid is within ten percent of the engineers
estimate; and,
WHEREAS, award to this bidder would be in the best interest of the City; and,
WHEREAS, the recommendation from City Administration is to award the agreement to
Alaska Road Builders, Inc. for the base bid for the total approximate cost of $127,095;
and,
WHEREAS, sufficient monies are appropriated.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENAI,
ALASKA, that the agreement for the project entitled "VIP DRIVE PAVING LID 2015" be
awarded to Alaska Road Builders, Inc. for the base bid for the total approximate cost of
$127,095.

Award of an agreement for VIP Drive Paving LID 2015
This memo is in support of a resolution awarding an agreement for the rehabilitation of
VIP Drive Paving LID to Alaska Road Builders for the amount of $127,095.
This project will reshape the road and ditches and pave the surface.
The drawings and subsequent bid included installing culverts under each driveway,
where there are none currently. This is typical of many road projects, but not always
necessary. The contractor, engineer, you and I have discussed the cost and benefit of
installing culverts on this project and determined it is not a good value. The area is very
flat, therefore culverts would not move water, which is their main function. The soils in
this area are naturally very well- draining and no flooding has been observed. Based on
this analysis it is our intention to execute a change order after the contract is executed to
remove the culverts from this project for a deduction of $17,160 to the project cost.
