CITY OF KENAI
ORDINANCE NO. 2844 -2015
AN ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENAI, ALASKA,
RETROACTIVELY APPROPRIATING REIMBURSEMENT FUNDS TO BE RECEIVED
FOR SUPPORT OF CARD STREET FIRE SUPPRESSION EFFORTS.
WHEREAS, Kenai Fire Department personnel have worked in support of Card Street
Fire suppression efforts; and,
WHEREAS, an agreement between the City and the State of Alaska Department of
Natural Resources, Division of Forestry entitles the City to reimbursement of
personnel cost associated with this support; and,
WHEREAS, the overtime worked by department staff was not budgeted and the
FY2015 budget is not able to support these expenditures without appropriation of the
proceeds.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENAI,
ALASKA, that estimated revenues and appropriations be increased as follows:

Section 3: This Ordinance shall be applied retroactively to the FY2015 operating
budget.

Reference: Overtime appropriation for Card Street Fire Operations
The City of Kenai Fire Department currently has one piece of apparatus working the
Card Street Fire. Squad 1 is providing initial attack and structural protection on the fire
line.
Squad 1 is staffed with 2 or 3 firefighters working a 1700 -0700 shift with an additional
hour for travel prior to and after each shift. The shifts schedules are subject to change
based on operational needs,
On the initial day of the fire Engine 3, with 2 personnel, responded to the fire and
providing structural protection. Engine 3 remained on scene for a second day with a
change in crew.
The Fire Department is requesting a supplemental appropriation to cover overtime this
fiscal year, prior to reimbursement from State Forestry, in the amount of $33,748.72.
