HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance No. 2846-2015Suggested by: Administration CITY OF KENAI iANCE NO. 2846 -2015 AN ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENAI, ALASKA, INCREASING ESTIMATED REVENUES AND APPROPRIATIONS BY $81,220 IN THE GENERAL FUND - FIRE DEPARTMENT FOR AN ASSISTANCE TO FIREFIGHTER GRANT FROM THE FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY. WHEREAS, the Federal Emergency Management Agency has provided a grant in the amount of $81,220 to the Kenai Fire Department for the purchase of a replacement breathing air compressor and replacement fire hose; and, WHEREAS, the grant requires a $4,060 local match which will be met with budgeted funds; and, WHEREAS, the FY2016 adopted budget included funds for the purchase of the breathing air compressor and fire hose; and, WHEREAS, the awarding of this grant will allow the department to use the FY2016 budgeted funds for replacement of other aging equipment of the department to include: 1. 2 Each Lifepak 15's $63,659.95 2. 12 sections 5" supply hose 7,560.00 3. 12 sections 1 %" fire hose 3,142.00 4. 1 set high pressure lift bag 6,800.00 $81.161.95 ;and, WHEREAS, the granting agency has approved using funds previously budgeted for the breathing air compressor and 3" fire hose for these new items due to timing of the grant award; and, WHEREAS, acceptance of this grant will assist in updating the department's equipment and is in the best interest of the City and its residents. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENAI, ALASKA: Section 1. Form. That this is a non -code ordinance. Section 2. That the City Manager is authorized to accept funds in the amount of $81,220 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and to expend the funds to fulfill the purpose and intent of this ordinance. The grant award was for a total of $85,280 of which $81,220 is the federal award and $4,060 is the local match. The funds were awarded to purchase a breathing air compressor and 92 sections of 3' fire hose. The FYI City adopted budget includes funds for the purchase of these items and I would like to propose utilizing these funds for other critical equipment purchases to include the following: 1. 2 Each Lifepak 15's $63,659.95 2. 12 sections 5" supply hose 7,560.00 3. 12 sections 1 W fire hose 3,142.00 4.
