MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Porter and Council Members
HROUGH: Rick Koch, City Manager
FROM: Bob Springer, Contracted Building Official
DATE: April 19, 2016
SUBJECT: 2014 National Electrical Code Adoption
The City of Kenai has historically adopted the latest edition of the National Electrical Code
as the standard for electrical systems design, construction and maintenance in the City.
The City has a deferral agreement with the State of Alaska which requires the City of Kenai
to adopt and enforce code standards no less stringent than those enforced by the State. The
State of Alaska adopted the 2014 National Electrical Code.
I therefore recommend the adoption of the 2014 National Electrical Code as amended by
the State of Alaska in order to comply with our deferral agreement and to consistently
enforce the code standards in effect throughout the State.
