SUBJECT: Friends of the Kenai Community Library donation
In May the Kenai Community Library was vandalized with substantial damage to some
of the furnishings. The cost to replace the furniture would be in excess of $15,000.
Within a week there was a second incidence of vandalism.
The city was able to install security cameras immediately, but those cameras would need
to be moved before the beginning of the Personal Use Fishery. In order to purchase and
install the cameras in a timely manner the city appealed to the Friends group to help in
the financing and actual purchase of some camera equipment.
The Friends responded quickly and offered to purchase a major piece of equipment
outright and donate that to the library. The total cost including shipping came to
$5,060.57. Due to their quick action the city was able to install a new security system and
move the temporary installation out.
