CITY OF KENAI
ORDINANCE NO. 2935 -2017
AN ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENAI, ALASKA, ACCEPTING AND
APPROPRIATING A FEDERAL GRANT FROM THE INSTITUTE OF MUSEUM AND
LIBRARY SERVICES (IMLS) PASSED THROUGH THE ALASKA STATE LIBRARY FOR
EMPLOYEE TRAVEL AND TRAINING.
WHEREAS, the Kenai Community Library has received a $1,250 grant from the IMLS
passed through the Alaska State Library for travel expenses of a staff member to attend
the 2017 Alaska Library Association Conference to be held in Ketchikan; and,
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the City of Kenai to accept and appropriate these
grant funds to provide staff training that will expand and enhance the services provided
to patrons of the Library.
Section 1: Form. That this is a non -code ordinance.
Section 2: That the City Manager is authorized to accept a grant in the amount of
$1,250 from the IMLS passed through the Alaska State Library for travel expenses of a
staff member to attend the 2017 Alaska Library Association Conference and to execute
grant agreements and to expend the grant funds to fulfill the purpose and intent of this
ordinance.
Section 3: That estimated revenues and appropriations be increased as follows:
General Fund
Increase Estimated Revenues:
Federal Library Grants $1,250
Increase Appropriations:
Library - Transportation $1,250
Section 4: That pursuant to KMC 1.15.070(f) this Ordinance shall take effect upon
enactment.

SUBJECT: Conference Attendance Grant
The Alaska State Library receives funds from the Institute of Museum and Library
Services (IMLS) to pay for continuing education grants. These travel funds allow staff
members to attend a continuing education workshop or conference. These funds can be
spent on travel, lodging, per diem and registration expenses.
This year Ryanna Thurman has been awarded funds ($1,250) to attend the Alaska Library
Association Conference to be held in Ketchikan, Alaska in February 2017.
