MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Brian Gabriel and Kenai City Council
THROUGH:
FROM: Jamie Heinz, Deputy City Clerk
DATE: 05/10/2017
SUBJECT: Public Records Management Schedule and Record Retention Policy —
Resolution No. 2017 -22
As previously referenced in the memo attached to Ordinance No. 2954 -2017, the Clerk's Office,
in conjuction with the City Attorney, recognized the need for the City's record retention schedule
and policy to be brought up to date and improved upon. The attached Records Management
Schedule and Record Retention Policy is the culmination of a process involving the Department
Head and Record Coordinator for each City department, reviewing all types of records each
department owns, determining mandated retention periods, obtaining Department Head
approval, and finally, legal approval. Through the process, the document was reformatted, and
local, state, and federal regulations were reviewed and cited. The Clerk's Office has prepared
this record retention schedule and policy, for your consideration and adoption, together with the
enactment of Ordinance No. 2954 -2017.
Your consideration is appreciated.
