HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 2017-32CITY OF KENAI RESOLUTION NO. 2017-32 Sponsored by: Administration A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENAI, ALASKA, AMENDING ITS COMPREHENSIVE SCHEDULE OF RATES, CHARGES, AND FEES TO INCORPORATE CHANGES TO THE WATER SERVICE FEE SCHEDULE. WHEREAS, Public Utility Regulations and Rates Appendices to the Kenai Municipal Code state that for domestic and commercial customers, separate deposits are required for water service and for sewer service and the amount of deposit required shall be as set forth in the City's schedule of fees adopted by the City Council; and, WHEREAS, these deposits may be refunded upon request after two years of timely payment history; and, WHEREAS, the amount of deposits has not been provided in the fee schedule to date, but $100 deposits have been required for many years; and, WHEREAS, Public Utility Regulations and Rates Appendices to the Kenai Municipal Code provides that all water turn -ons and turn-offs and the operations of the water valve located on the service line in the key box shall be made by City personnel only for a fee and a penalty will apply if a water turn -on or turn-off is done by non -City personnel as provided in the City's Schedule of fees; and, WHEREAS, the fees for water shut-off and turn -on reflected in this Resolution are supported by past practice and the penalty for unauthorized shut-off and turn -on is recommended by the Public Works Director. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENAI, ALASKA: Section 1. The Water Fees section of the City's Comprehensive Schedule of Rates, Charges and Fees be amended as follows: APX - Public Utility Regulations and Rates 1. The City has been collecting deposits and charging customers for service shut-off and turn -on. This resolution will officially set those rates. In addition this will set the penalty for unauthorized turn on or shut off of water services. Thank you for your consideration.
