REs Kenai Peninsula Borough Landfill Inside the City of Kenai
Dear Mayor Thompson,
The City Council at it's regular meeting on June 189 directed
the City Administration to provide the following information to
representatives of the Kenai Peninsula Boroughs
1, The City is interested in working with the Borough end
DEC to acquire a temporary use permit for an additional 18
months on the existing site and permit expending of the present
site by 300' x 19000'.
2. The 18-month extension be with the condition the Borough
acquire a new site prior to the expiration of 18 months. If a new
Oita is located prior to the expiration of 18 months, the present
site be closed se soon as the new site is acquired.
3. That if the additional area fills prior to the
expiration of the 18-month extension the landfill will be closed
immediately.
4. The area to be used for expansion, i.e. 300' x 1,000'
area, be platted and that the Borough identify what will be in
the landfill and what will be excluded.
5. Get a redevelopment plan of the land that is
contaminated.

Far North Plans Exploratory Work at Cannery Loop
Kenai -based Far North Oil & Gas plans to commence re-entry operations soon at Its newly permit.
ted Mike Pelch Ml exploratory well In Cook Inlet Basin three miles east of Kenai. For North will use Great
Northern Drilling's Rig 01,.whlch "is already over the well and ready to go." The well, formerly Cannery
Loop Unit 02. was drilled and abandoned by Union Oil Company in 1981. Union encountered oil and gas
shows at different intervals In the 10.731-foot straight hole, which was drilled in Section 2, TSN, R I 1 W.
SM. Far North reportedly has secured a contract to sell any gas the well produces.
Exploratory activity at the other end of the state this week has Amoco Production Company drill -
Ina below 13,730 feet in Y-0371 NL on Sandpiper Island. The well is permitted to 16,000 feet and is being
drilled by Pool Arctic Alaska Rig NS.
Other drilling In the state Is comprised of North Slope development work. Standard Alaska com-
pleted operations at two wells in the Endicott field last week and has since spudded two new wells. Tile
Duck Island M-33 was spudded on June 4 and is drilling at 3,023 feet from Pool Arctic Alaska Rig 07.
The 0.20 well spudded two days later and is presently drilling at 3.086 feet from Doyon Rig 013.
At Prudhoe Bay, Standard Alaska Is drilling at 3,322 feet In 0.19 and making hole at 10,313 feet
In Y-23. Arco Alaska is running 9-5/8-inch casing near 9,610 feet in DS 1.29, setting 9-3/8-Inch casing near
10,773 feet In DS 11.17 and washing over fish at 13,444 feet In DS 18.5. Arco Is also active at two locations
In the lCuparuk River•field In 2T-11.Operations have been completed at 3N-18 and 2T•10. Elsewhere, Arco's
L01.611sbltrne develolment well is drilling below 8,400 feet from Rowan Rig #41.
In Cook Inlet Ba lq4 Chevron Is rigging up Brinkerhof 's Rig 038 at Pretty Creek Unit 02 in Sec-
tibn 33, T14N. R9W, SM. Chevron has secured a gas sales contract with Enstar and plans to complete the
Pretty Creek well as a producing gas well. The well was originally: drilled as the Theodore River No. I by
Halbouty Alaska Oil Company in 1969. The well was abandoned after being drilled to a total depth of
12,023 feet. Chevron re-entered the well In 1979 and tested gas in two Boluga formation zones. Chevron
also plans to drill a follow-up well this summer. Pretty Creek Unit 224.28. using Brinkerhoff's Rig 1116.
Chevron Sells Dutch Harbor Terminal
Chevron U.S.A. Inc. has sold Its 13.3 million -gallon Dutch Harbor petroleum terminal to Western
Pioneer Inc.. a Washington and Alaska -based shipping company. Western Pioneer will market and resell
unbranded products ender the name of Pacific Pioneer, a joint venture of Western Pioneer and Crowley
Maritime Corp.

The accompanying list would appropriate $958,170 of Federal
Revenue Sharing (FRS) funds. This list was prepared from
requests from Department Beads and the City Council during
the budget process. Many items were not discussed at all;
other@ were tentatively added to FRB by the Council.

As requested by Council, I have obtained some cough eetimateo of
coat for work on City Hall. .
Painting interior - $16,000 to $20t000
Carpeting - $1,650
The painting job would varyg depending on the colors need, prep
work done by the City or the pointer, accentst number of rooms
done, etc.
The carpeting would very, depending on type of carpetq prop work
done by the City or the carpet people, number of room donee etc.
