MEETING SUMMARY
1. CALL TO ORDER
Chair Williams called the meeting to order at 4:30 p.m.

Chair Williams led those assembled in the Pledge of Allegiance.

MOTION:
Member Thornton MOVED for approval of the agenda and Member Geller SECONDED the
motion. There were no objections; SO ORDERED.

a. October 10, 2019
MOTION:
Member Erwin MOVED to approve the October 10, 2019 meeting summary and Member
Thornton SECONDED the motion. There were no objections; SO ORDERED.

5. UNFINISHED BUSINESS
a. Discussion/Recommendation – Code of Conduct for the Senior Center
A copy of the October 29, 2019 Council on Aging Work Session Notes related to further
discussion and formulation of the draft Code of Conduct were provided to those present. The
City Attorney reviewed the notes and provided suggested options for some wording.
Director Romain will provide a final draft for review, discussion, and action at the December 12
Council on Aging meeting.
6. NEW BUSINESS – None.
7. REPORTS
a. Senior Center Director – Romain reported the following:
• The new flooring installation will happen in January due to holidays, rentals, etc.
happening in November and December;
• A temporary janitor was hired and she would be conducting permanent
interviews for a permanent janitor position shortly;
• The Hilcorp Thanksgiving dinner will be held on Tuesday, November 26; and
• The Senior Connection will be purchasing meats for Christmas food baskets and
the food and toy drives are in progress.
b. Council on Aging Chair – Williams thanked the Administration for upgrading the
connecting door to the Center as an automatic opening door with the swipe cards
and thanked those attending for their participation.
c. City Council Liaison – Council Member Glendening reviewed the Action Agenda for
the Council’s November 6, 2019 meeting noting ordinances and resolutions passed,
and that a request for proposals had been issued for naming rights of the multi-
purpose facility and nominations for Council liaisons to City commissions/committees
were offered.
8. NEXT MEETING ATTENDANCE NOTIFICATION – December 12, 2019
There were no announcements of absences for the December 12, 2019 meeting.
9. COUNCIL MEMBERS COMMENTS AND QUESTIONS – None.

Our Mission
KENAI SENIOR CENTER
Code of Conduct and Ethics
To serve as a community focal point for senior services where adults 60+ come together for fellowship and program
participation, to engage in opportunities for dignity and personal growth, to improve and enrich their quality of life,
to support the needs of older individuals, to enhance their independence, and to broaden their involvement within
the community.
Users of the Center are expected to follow standards of independence and behaviors as we strive to support the goals
of a welcoming atmosphere and safe environment for all who come through our doors.
Be considerate of people and property:
• Please remember all ADA approved service animals are permitted in the building. Owners are responsible
for their animal by keeping the animal close and in control at all times. Service animals must not disrupt
other patrons.
• Please know that smoking or vaping i s not allowed within the Senior Center building or within twenty (20)
feet of the Center building. KMC 12.40 Ashtray stands are located near the sidewalk in front of the Senior
Center.
• Please refrain from consuming alcohol on the premises during Senior Center regular hours. Participants who
are under the influence will be asked to leave the premises.
• Please refrain from using cell phones within the main dining room. Phone calls may be taken outside or to
other le ss populated areas of the Senior Center. Conversations via speakerphone are discouraged as they can
be disruptive to other patrons.
• Please keep in mind the provided items are intended for use at the Center. (Napkins, cream/sugar, etc.)
Please do not take these items for use at home.
• Please refrain from wearing strong fragrances or hygienic products. Many sen iors have allergies or are
sensitive to strong odors.
• Please show respect to the staff, vo lunteers, other participants, and the Senior Center. The Kenai Senior
Center promotes a safe and positive place. Harassment, violence or threats will not be tolerated in any form.
• Please dress appropriately and maintain personal cleanliness and good hygiene.
• Please remember solicitation, or selling is not permitted within the Senior Center. If you have something you
would like to advertise, feel free to use the community bulletin board.
• Pl ease remember serv ice of the sa l ad bar and buffet table are only allowed if hand sanitizer is used. This is
the best way we can ensure your safety and health.
Medical Conditions or Issues: Participants shou ld provide an emergency contact. If a participant experiences a
medical or any other problem whi le on the premise s, staff will seek appropriate medical treatment on their behalf.
Participants (with care-giver when necessary) should be reasonably oriented and capable of independent decision-
making. Participants must take responsibility for their own health, hygiene and care.
