CITY OF KENAI _ ORDINANCE NO. 381)-78 AN ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF THB CITY OF KENAI, ALASKA, INCREASING EI{TIMATED REVENUBS AND APPROPRIATIONS iN THE AMOUNT OF SZ, 750 FOR TITLE Ii ANTI-RECESSION REVENUE SHARING FUNDB WHEREAS, Resolution No. 76-68 authorized the City Manager to execute the Statement of Assm, anees required to obtain this funding, and WHEREAS, Federal requii'ements mandate that these funds be spent within six months of receipt, and WHEREAS, the need c~iste fo~ a temporary employee in the Library to update cataloging on 5,000 non-fiction books, and WHEREAS, proper accounting practices require that all appropriations of City monies be made by ordinance. For the purpose of up-dating cataloging on ~,000 non-fiction books. The books, though on the shelves, are not presently cited in the catalog. Ca, ds on these books were pulled when we started preparing for the move to our new quarters. Many Dewey numbers have been changed over the years~ and the b~oks need complete sets of catalog cards with new numbers and subject headings. One set of catalog ea~ds consists of five basic cards, including subject cards, plus book pocket and book card. .... For the purpose of filing our depository documents. Xemai ~s designated a state depository library many years ago, when a new buil~ing w~s first planned. Depository documents were stored at the state library until our new building was finally a fact. These documents includ~ every document that has ~een printed by any state agency since statehood. They are a very valuable reference tool, and are Being asked for daily. However, sines our original shipment consisted of 72 boxes, and we have received 1 box each ~onth sines, there Just has not been time for me to properly set up a file an~ file these back shipments. Each box contains an inven- tory of its contents and cataloging for all the hard cover material. To have these materials filed and shelved ~mmld elimizate a g~eat deal of sears, h- ing th~c,~ boxes to find mater!Bls as they. are requested. The eaployee must ~e capable of' typing cat~lo~ car~e ~ccu:~tel~; an~ to de~niSe speeif~c~tions, mst Enow ho~ to f~le documents and c~rda ~n ~t[ subject a~d alphabetical order, and must be able to work steadily ignoring the eonfuaAon that sometimes is necessary in the pursuance of our regular ~orE. ~e vould want the employee to do the cataloging and documents only, not for rea~er's services unless it pertained directly WX~h wh~t the employee is doing. This employee should be paid ~t a r~te from $2.80 to $~.05 per hou~ according to the city's personnel classification.
