Subject: Temporary Position, tilrrary
Per our discussions, I wish to formally request one temporary full-time
employee for a term of three months starting March 1, ending ~ay 31, 1~78,
.... For the purpose of up-dating cataloging on ~,000 non-fiction books.
The books, though on the shelves, are not presently cited in the catalog.
Ca, ds on these books were pulled when we started preparing for the move
to our new quarters. Many Dewey numbers have been changed over the years~
and the b~oks need complete sets of catalog cards with new numbers and
subject headings. One set of catalog ea~ds consists of five basic cards,
including subject cards, plus book pocket and book card.
.... For the purpose of filing our depository documents. Xemai ~s designated
a state depository library many years ago, when a new buil~ing w~s first
planned. Depository documents were stored at the state library until our
new building was finally a fact. These documents includ~ every document
that has ~een printed by any state agency since statehood. They are a
very valuable reference tool, and are Being asked for daily. However,
sines our original shipment consisted of 72 boxes, and we have received
1 box each ~onth sines, there Just has not been time for me to properly
set up a file an~ file these back shipments. Each box contains an inven-
tory of its contents and cataloging for all the hard cover material. To
have these materials filed and shelved ~mmld elimizate a g~eat deal of sears, h-
ing th~c,~ boxes to find mater!Bls as they. are requested.
The eaployee must ~e capable of' typing cat~lo~ car~e ~ccu:~tel~; an~ to
de~niSe speeif~c~tions, mst Enow ho~ to f~le documents and c~rda ~n ~t[
subject a~d alphabetical order, and must be able to work steadily ignoring
the eonfuaAon that sometimes is necessary in the pursuance of our regular
~orE. ~e vould want the employee to do the cataloging and documents only,
not for rea~er's services unless it pertained directly WX~h wh~t the employee
is doing. This employee should be paid ~t a r~te from $2.80 to $~.05 per
hou~ according to the city's personnel classification.
