SUBJECT: PURCHASE OF TYPEWRITER
October 26, 1977
The IBM typewriter presently in the Public
Safety Building is functioning very poorly
(as per attached memo from Dispatcher Pearson).
Service Reprsentatives from I~4 have been
seemingly unable to correct the problems noted
even though called in recently on three occa-
sions.
The typewriter in the Communications Center re-
ceives continuous 24 hour a day, seven day a
week usage. The present machine has been in
use by Public Safety for six years or more.
As it is highly important to our operations
to have reliable service from the instrument
in order to have reports and complaints comp-
leted accurately and in a timely manner, re-
quest that consideration be given to trading
in the present equipment on n new IBM self-
correcting model. Additional monies could
be obtained to complete the purckase through
conversion of the recent insurance check
received to this project.

This typewriter is one of the most antiquated ones still in use,
~akes dashes instead of let~r depressed, margin setting tab is
broken off, numbers are e~tremely hard to depress, especially the
0, tab hangs up even when cleared, only works periodically, feeds
paper thru crooked half the ti~e. It was worked on 3 times in
one week due to the reasons named above, with very little results.
In fact after being worked on the second time, it quit working
alltogether. There are other tht:lgs that I can't think of right
~ow.
