AMENDING KENAI CODE, AS AMENDED, SECTIOIJ 7-3, TO REMOVE ANY
AGE QUALIFICATIONS FOR A DISABLED PERSON QUALIFYII~G FOR TIlE
$250 EXEMPTION FROM PROPE}{TY TAXES.
WtlEREAS, it appears in the public interest that a phy-
sically disabled citizen, or resident of the City of Kenai
should receive some relief from property taxes ut a time of
low income and high potential expenses~ and the welfare of
such citizens being of public interest to the City,
BE IT ORDAINED BY TII~- COUNCIL OF TIIE CITY OF KENAI, ALASKA~
~ection 1. Section 7-3 of Kenai Code, 1963, as amended,
is hereby further ~.~ended to delete an age qualification for
persons physically disabled, and such exemption ordinance of
the Code shall be a~ended to read, as follows~
~enior and Disabled Citizen Ta~ Exem~tion.
Section 7-3. One (1) piece of residential property
owned and occupied by a citizen either 65 years of
age or more, or physically disabled within the meaning
of the U. S. Social Security Act entitling such person
to disability benefits, who is a resident of the City
of Kenai, Alaska, shall be exempt from the property
tax up to and including the a~unt of two hundred and
fifty dollars ($250.00), providing such senior or dis-
abled citizen/resident of the City of Kenai has boon a
resident of the State of Alaska for not less than 10
years last past, and is the head of the household, and
providing that not more than i exemption shall be al-
lowed on any piece of property. This exemption from
taxes is not automatic, but must be applied for at any
time during the year by each qualifi~d citizen/resident,
but not later than the 31st day of May of any tax year.
~ection 2. It is the finding of the Council that the
Tax exemption enacted in S0ction 1 of this amendment is in the
public interest in that the welfare of such citizens is the
public interest of this cit~
