RESOLUTION NO. 2000-71
A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENAI, ALASKA,
AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS TO PARTICIPATE
IN THE PUBLIC EMPLOYEES' RETIREMENT SYSTEM (PERS) OF ALASKA
PURSUANT TO AS 39.35 ET SEQ.
WHEREAS, House Bill 335, which was effective August 20, 2000, made
inclusion of elected officials in the PERS optional; and
WHEREAS, in the past compensated elected officials were statutorily included
in the PERS; and
WHEREAS, the State of Alaska Division of Retirement and Benefits requests
that the City amend its participation agreement; and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the City of Kenai to include the Mayor
and City Council members in the classifications of employees entitled to
participate in the PERS.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
KENAI, ALASKA, that the City Manager shall take all steps necessary to amend
the participation agreement to include the Mayor and City Council members in
the classifications of employees entitled to participate in the PERS effective
August 20, 2000.
PASSED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENAI, ALASKA, this 20t~ day of
