HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTION 1999-10Suggested by: Administration CITY OF KENAI RESOLUTION NO. 99-10 A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENAI, ALASKA ADOPTING A FLEXIBLE BENEFITS PLAN. WHEREAS, the City Manager established a Health Insurance Advisory Committee comprised of city employees; and, WHEREAS, the committee is studying various options for providing insurance benefits; and, WHEREAS, the committee realizes that City employees do not have short-term disability or other supplemental insurance coverage; and, WHEREAS, the committee requested that the City establish an optional cafeteria plan for supplemental insurance coverage under Interne Revenue Code Section 125 for the benefit of eligible employees; and, WHEREAS, the committee has recommended the City allow American Family Life Assurance Company (AFLAC), an insurance company, to offer city' employees supplemental insurance products; and, WHEREAS, participation in this plan is optional and does not affect the employees' existing health benefits; and, WHEREAS, the cost is borne by participating employees and not by the City. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Kenai adopts the Flexible Benefits Plan (consisting of the flexible benefits plan document, the Adoption Agreement, and component benefit plans and Policies) for the City of Kenai effective March 15, 1999. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Manager is authorized to execute the Adoption Agreement and any related documents or amendments which may be necessary or appropriate to adopt the plan or maintain its compliance with applicable federal, state and local law.
