HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTION 1999-47Suggested by: Council CITY OF KENAI RESOLUTION NO. 99-47 A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENAI, ALASKA, SUPPORTING THE ENDEAVORS OF THE COOK INLET REGIONAL CITIZENS ADVISORY COUNCIL (CIRCAC) TO ENCOURAGE THOSE WITH THE ULTIMATE AUTHORITY AND RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE THAT "PREVENTION" OF OIL SPILLS IN COOK INLET BECOME ONE OF THEIR HIGHEST PRIORITIES. WHEREAS, we encourage those with the authority and responsibility to exercise due process expeditiously in generating, if not guaranteeing ultimate "Prevention" rules pertaining to any kind of oil spill in Cook Inlet; and, WHEREAS, engaging such "Prevention" rules by those with the authority and responsibility to do so will contribute to the continual safe and timely passage of goods and freight through the Port of Anchorage to a number of communities of Alaska and to over sixty percent (60%) of all Alaskans' and, WHEREAS, we suggest to those with the authority and responsibility that "Prevention" should not be a reactionary tool but should be done through the immediate sense of planning and employing best available technology prior to a spill occurring. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENAI, ALASKA, that CIRCAC may present this resolution at their Forum "Safety of Navigation in Cook Inlet" in Homer, Alaska, September 10, 1999 and for any other purpose it may deem appropriate.
