HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTION 1998-35Suggested by: Kenai City Council CITY OF KENAI RESOLUTION NO. 98-35 A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENAI, ALASKA, SUPPORTING "Census 2000" by the U. S. Census Bureau. WHEREAS, the census is vital to our community in that it determines the apportionment of seats in the United States House of Representatives and our state's legislature, and is the basis for the allocation of billions of dollars of federal, state and local funding for social and other programs; and WHEREAS, the census is also used to help determine where to locate schools, day care centers, senior citizen centers, hospitals and other facilities and is used to make decisions concerning business growth and jobs; and WHEREAS, census information is confidential and federal law prohibits any public or private agency from gaining access to confidential census data; and WHEREAS, the City of Kenai is committed to a full and accurate census count and is placing special emphasis on enumerating members of population groups traditionally undercounted; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENAI, ALASKA that Census 2000 is a top priority for stakeholders and leaders within our community and we encourage participation in our jurisdiction's Complete Count Committee. We also urge full participation by members of our municipal staff in all matters related to technical preparation for Census 2000, including the annual Boundary and Annexation Survey and the Local Update of Census Addresses.
