A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL O1~ T~'CITYOF KENAI, ALASKA, ENDORSIN~
THE CONTINUATION OF THE TUSTUMENA LAKE.SOC '!~ YE SALMON FISTS '
WHEREAS, the United States Fish and Wildli~ Service is preparinS' an environmental essessment
of'the Tustumena lake sock~e salmon fisheries enhancanent project; and, '"
WHEREAS, Future permits for this project ~rom the United States Fish and Wildlife Sm*vice are
dependent on the outcome ofthis environmental assessment procen; and,
WHEREAS, the Alaska Department of.Fish and Game and, more recently, the Cook inlet
Aquaculture Association, have operated a sockeye salmon' fisheries enhancement program on
Tustumena Lake since 1976; and,
Vd~_.REAS, in the last 20 years, the project has developed components that provide sockeye
salmon to fisheries in the Upper Cook Inlet, Kamishak Bay, Kachemak Bay, and Resurrection
Ba~, and, '.
WHEREAS, the sockeye salmOn fisheries enhancement? pro~n onTustumena Lake has r~ted
in an increase in production OF, sockeye' salmon, in Cook. Inlet without nesative results Oh'.wild
stocks or the rearins environment; and, ... ' '
WHERBAS, the salmon produced throush this Project benefit the common property fisheries
includins commeFcial, sport,_and Personal use" fisheries; ~
WHEREAS, the pro, ram continues to operate under the technical scrutiny ofthe Alaska
Department offish and WJld~e throush its permittins authority.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY .THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KEN:Al*
ALASKA, that

pennittins the stockinS of fish and the enhancement· 0~the fishery resources Within Cook Inlet and
