RESOLUTION NO. 96,74
A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENAI, ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE
CITY MANAGER, THOMAS J. MANNINEN, TO SUBMIT. TO THE. STATE OF' ALASKAi'AN-
APPLICATION FOR A FEDERAL GRANT FOR A HISTORICAL PUBLIC PRESERVATION
EDUCATION PROJECT FOR A SIGNAGE PROJECT IN THE TOWNSITE HISTORIC DISTRICT.
AND THE SHKITUK' VILLAGE SITE OF KENAI, ALASKA.
WHEREAS, pursuant to the National Park Service Historic Preservation Act of. 1966, certain.
federal share matching grants for historic preservation projects are available to certified, tocal
governments; and,
WHEREAS, The Council has reviewed the letter of intent prepared by the City of Kenai for.
such a federal share matching grant for a Slgnage Project in the Townsite Historic District of
Kenai, Alaska.
WHEREAS, The Council is fully cognizant of the obligations and responsibilities that will be
incurred by the City of Kenai upon acceptance of such grant:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENAI, ALASKA,
that:
Se~tion 1~ The Council hereby authorizes the City Manager, Thomas J. Manninen, to
submit an application to the State of Alaska, Department of natural Resources, for
federal share matching grant for a Signage Project in the Old Town District and the.
Shkituk' Village Site of Kenai, Alaska.
S. ection 2. The department of The City Manager ie established as the agent for'the
City of Kenat for administration of this project.
Section 3. If the City of Kenai is awarded the grant for a Signage Project in. the
Townsite Historic District of Kenai, Alaska, the council will introduce an ordinance
providing matching funds for this project. .. :
Section 4. Effective Date. This resolution shall be effective immediately-upOn
adoption.

HISTORIC PRESERVATION FUND GRANT---SIGNAGE GRANT

The THD Board met with the Rotary Club ~ regards to the slgnage in Old Town, Rotary
Club has agreed to_work with the Board on the.Old Town signage project. It is our
under~tanding that Rotary Club will supply, labor if the Board can obtain 'funds for the.
materialS. This. grant would purchase matenals for 30 MgnS.. The signs would be'four feet,
long and six Inches wide and made of. cedar. The name ofthe property would be ~ in"'
the wood. A 4" X 8" metal plaque vail be placod on the sign' containing basic information
about the property, such as the original owner and date of original occupancY,.' This
information will. ~be determined from the Historic District SurVey. The ~=o~t per sign will be'
approximately $100.00 {$81 for material, and the remainder for'engraving at $,10.per
letter). The tote! for 30 slgn~ will be approximately $3.000, ' '
The Shkituk' Village sign would be a historic marker to be placed at the Shkituk' Village site.
This would be an 8' X 12' trifold panel consisting of fiberglass embedded panelS? .The
artwork for the sign has been sketched by Bunny Swan. The eMimated
Is $3080. Thle e~timate Includes Artwork ($rd)o), sr, annlng ($45), three Rbeq;ll~
embedded panels ($2035), and wood framing ($~10).
