HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTION 1994-01SUGGESTED BY: City of Kenai R~SOLOTZON ~O. 94-'Z Mayor Williams A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENAI, ALASKA, SUPPORTING PROPOSED OIL AND GAS LEASE SALE 85, COOK 'INLET, CURRENTLY SCHEDULED FOR JULY, 1996. WHEREAS, the Alaska Department of Natural Resources, Divisi°nof Oil and Gas, is requesting general information and comments from.. agencies, looal governments, industry, and the p~blio On.proPosed. Oil and Gas Lease Sale 85, Cook Inlet; and, WHEREAS, the proposed sale area will consist of approXimatelY': 700,000 acres of upl&nds, tide, and submerged lands in the Cook Inlet basin as depicted on Exhibit 'A" attached; and, WHEREAS, the Cook Inlet region is used extensively for commercial, subsistence, and recreational fishing and hunting, well as abundant oil and gas production; and, ae WHEREAS, these industries are critical to the economy of the Kenai Peninsula; and, WHEREAS, after reviewing the history of .oil development .in the Cook Inlet we find the oil and fishing industr'.~eS can' be "~ compatible and neither need be detrimental to.".'one another. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL'OF THE CITY KENAI, ALASKA, supports oil development in the Cook Inlet. OF BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to James Hansen, Chief Petroleum GeophysiciSt','Division of Oil & Gas, P.O.
