HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTION 1992-40SUGGESTED BY~ MaYor City of Xenai It~SOLUTION NO, A RESOLUTION OF THE 'COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENAI, ALASKA,. OPPOSING THE CURTAIItiENT'OF OPERATIONS OF THE WILD#OOD CORRECTIONAL FACILITY. WHEREAS, the City of Kenai Council views the #ildwood Correctional Facility as a major economic factor of this co~unity; and, WHEREAS, the Kenai City Council is deeply concerned about the muchm rumored curtailment of operations of the #ildwood Correctional Facility; and, WHEREAS, the Kenai City Council views the incarceration of criminals in the State of Alaska as a mandatory function of the government; and, WHEREAS, the Kenai City Council recognizes the need for strong Judicial services, correctional facilities, and the funding of these elements of our government; and, " WIiEREAS, the Curtailment of the services now furnished by. the #ildwood Correctional Facility will result in the loss' of nearly' 60 full-time Jobs', thus rendering an economic hardship to an area already suffering from one of the highest unemployment rates' in the state. * NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENAI, AI~SKA, unanimously opposes the curtailment of correctional services, the closing of any portion of the wildwood Correctional Facility as now proposed, and the lay-off of any correctional employees of the Wildwood Correctional Facility. BE IT ~IRTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be distributed to members of the Alaska State Legislature, the Governor's Office and the Co~issioner of Corrections'.
