A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENAI, ALASKA, SUPPORTING THE DEVSX~OPMENT OF A NEW COURTHOUSE IN THE CITY KENAI AND AGREEING TO PROVIDE A SITE FOR THAT PURPOSE. OF WH~tEAS, ~he City of Kenai recognizes that the present courthouse is inadequate and that the State of Alaska Judicial system needs a new courthouse, and ' WHEREAS, the City of Kenai agrees to purchase and furnish the appropriate land for the courthouse, as well as to provide paved streets, water and sewer to the property, and WHEREAS, the City of Kenai agrees to utilize its authority ~o issue revenue ~onds sufficient to cover the construction cost of approximately $?,000,000, and WHEREAS, this resolution is subject to land availability, the appropriation of monies for land acquisition, the sale of revenue bonds pursuant to Sections 6-3 or 6-5 of the City Charter, and a lease program with the State of Alaska to assure payment of principal and interest on such bonds. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY-THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENAI, that they support the development of a new courthouse in the city of Kenai and agree to provide a site for that purpose. Prisoners are delivered to the ¢ourtrm)ms through a secure conidor on ~he meznnine level. COmplete reparation of staff, public, and prisoners is maintained .at all times.. The courthOuse design responds, to · the scale, s~yle. ,nd feel of the local area. borrowing alP'arian forms. An infomud re,ss!ne of east and west blocks connected by the prominent high gable marks the access to th~ courtrooms. The high 8~le offseu and stops down to provide a human- scaled nuin entrance.
