RESOLUTION NG. 80-178
A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENAI, ALASRA,
ACCEPTING TfiE DONATION OF LANDS AND OIL AND GAS RIGHTS IN
ADJACENT LANDS FROM HAROLD A. DAUFsENSPECR AND RITA DAUBENSPECR.
WHEREAS, Barold A. Daubenspeck has for many year$ owned and
operated the Kenai Salmon Packing Cmnpany in the City of Kenai
and has alway~ been a positive force in the ~evelopment and
stabilization of the economy of said City, and
WHEREAS, the summer employment f urnished by the Renai Salmon
Packing Company has not only contributed tc~ the f inancial well
being of the community, but has in many cases furnished the
opportunity fc~r youth of this City to earn high wages with which
th~y have been able to continue their pursuit of higher
education, which has resulted not only in the advancement and
enrichn~nt of said youth but has worked to the benefit of every
community in which said youth have later settled, including t~e
City of Renai, and
WBEREAS, the said Harold A. Daubenspeck has always followed the
policy of lsnding funds to local inhabitants for purposes of the
ru~cuasc ~f =ishf~ty si~ces, ffs~ii~g vessels, an8 fishfng r~ear,
which has contrfbuted not only to the well being of the
individuals involved but to the development of the Cook Inlet
fishery and the cor~munity as a whole, and
WSERPAB, Harold A. & Rita Daube*±speck have executed a Deed by
which they have offered to donate to the City of Renai very
valuable riverside and road frontage properties within the City
of Ksnai, including all oil., gas, and mineral rights therein,
which property is not only verg valuable property in itself, but
is even more so to the City of Kenai because it is adjacent to
land already owned by the City of Kenai, and
WHEREAS, Mr. & Mrs. Daubenspeck have also executed a Deed and
offered to donate to the City of Renai alI oil and gas rights
previously reserved by them in adjacent tracts to those conveyed
and donated to the City at this time, ~nd
WHEREAS, it is understooc7 that siqnificant quantities of gas have
been disconere8 in a weil drilled just across the Renai niver
from the land in question and the pool of gas may well extend
under saici I.ands,

NOW, ~~EREFO1tE, BE IT TcESOLVED by the Covncil of the City of
Kenai, Alaska that thF City of Kenai hereby accepts from HAROLD
A. b RITA DAUBENSPECI~ the gift of land, together with the oil,
gas, and mineral rights therein and the gift of oil and gas
rights in adjacent lands referred ta in the deeds of December 12,
1980, to be used exclnsively for public purposes. We further
recoqnize that the value of this gift may exceed THREB MILLION
DOLLARS ($3,000,000.00).
BE IT FURTHEIt RESOLVED that the City honor the request of Mr. &
Mrs. Daubenspeck that the oil, gas, and mineral riqhts, includirFg
sales proceeds, royalties, revenue, or rental income therefrom,
from Tracts C, D, and E of the Daubenspeck Property Subdivision
as well as fzara Alaska Tidelands Survey No. 98, are to be
dedicated to athletic programs sponsored by the City of Kenaf.
The distributions of sucn funus will be at the full and sole
discretion of the City Council of the Cfty of Kenai, Alaska, to
the Parks b Recreation Commission or such other City agency or
city official as tbe City Council may from time to time authorize
to use such distributions.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED ~hat as a gesture of our appreciation we
hereby recommend that in the event a marina or park ar c~h~r
public facility be developed on any of the donated property that
such facilfty be named afte~ the Daubenspecks.
