RESOLUTTON NO. 88-13
A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCXL OF TIlE CXTY OF KENAX, ALASKA,
REQUBSTXNGTHAT THE UNITED STATES GOVERNM~NTGRANT AREAWIDE
CUSTOMS PORT OF ENTRY STATUS TO THE SEAPORTS OF THE KENAX
PEHINSUhA, ALASKA.
~fllERBAS, the-port8 o£ the Kenai Peninsula are situated
mid-way betwemk the Gul£ of Alaska and the Bering Sea
fioh~ng grounds and have, f~r many years, been a regular
pore. of call for supplies, cerew changes, repairs and
recreation £or the merchant marines manning the vessels of
many £oreign countries plying the north Pacific waters, and
WHEREAS, the north Eenai area ts a port o~ call for ships in
connection with oil and oil-refined products including
ltquified natural gas, anmonia and urea, the by-product of
the oil and natural gas industry, and
WHEREAS, having customs personnel on site on the Kenai
Peninsula would be a substantial savings to many companies
and individuals connected with the international shipping
industry, and
#HERSAS, the City of Seward has pledged $30,000, the City of
Homer has pledged 815,000, the City of Soldotna has pledged
$5,000 and the Xenai Peninsula Borough has pledged 815,000.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF TEE CITY OF
KBNAI, ALASKA that said Council hereby pledges $15,000 plus
providing space in the Eena1 Airport to provide an o~f~ce
for the customs personnel, should the ~nited States
Governnent grant ports of entry s~atua to the seaports of
the Eenai Peninsula.
