SUPPORTING TIMBER INDUSTRY DEVELOP~BNT IN THB BOREJ~FOP~ST. ~I~.~S, Alaska's boreal forests are over-mature and valuable, unharvested timber resources are going to waste; and ~ERE~, world economics and technolog~ now allow for the profitable harvesting end conversion of Alaska t~mber to satisfy world market demands for pl~ood, furniture stock and pulpl and WHERB~S, careful management of boreal forests will allow for increased th~ber growth, ~mproved animal habitat, new recreational opportunities and expanded road networks~ and ~RE~S, development of timber industry will attract capital investment for mills, factories and equipment as well as creating Jobs in silvaculture, logging and manu£acturing; and ~4~RB~S, the Alaska Constitution mandates management of state resources for the n~mum sustainable yield. NO~ THEREFORE BE XTRESOLVEDTH~T THE COUNCZL OF THE CITYOFKENAX, ~14tSffit, hereby supports the management of Alaska's boreal forest for the benefit of the Brats economy and supports the development of the thuber industry, including silvaculturo, logging, and manufacturing. Ny interest ts to promote timber development in the Susitns basin. As the major land-owner, the state must act to place its multi-purpose lands into production.
