The purpose of thts transfer ts to provtde for purchase of a cellular tolephone system for Installation tn the Kens1 ambulance. Funds ere available for thts transfer because the maintenance contract award was belo~ ~he budget amount projected. in looktn9 at ways tn whtch we could asstst tn the enhancement of Ef4S, tratntng of dispatchers ~o provtde medtcal assistance on the telephone ~htle the ambulance wes responding was considered. Because there ts only one dtsp&tcher on dul;y on many occasions, and the problem wtth other calls coating tn durtn9 the ttme she ts on the phone wtth the caller, this plan ts not realistic. Ftre tratntng has agreed to provtde sumo very bastc tratntn9 that may be of asstst~nce for those calls requiring very bastc advtse. in Iooktng further tn thts area - provision of servtce while the ambulance ts responding - the concept of ustng a cellular telephone tn the ambulance was considered. Thts 1des was discussed wtth the Ftre Chtef end he agreed tt ~ould be morth atrtal. The 9oal betng developmont of the &btltty to transfer the cellar to tratned~ltcal personnel tn the ambulance. Additional benefits of telephone access by ambulance personnel to the hospital, doctors, etc., would &1so be realized. if the trtal project does not ~ork out to the Ftre Chtef's satisfaction, the funds requested would not be spent.
