HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTION 1984-113~y~-~.~ .: 1__ - Suggested by: City Clerk CITY OF KENAI RESOLUTION N0. 84-113 A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENAI, ALASKA, RESCINDING RC"OLUTION 84-86, AND SUBMITTING TO THE QUALIFIED VOTERS OF THE CITY OF KENAI AT THEIR REGULAR ELECTION TO BE HELD IN THE CITY OF KENAI ON OCTOBER 2, 1984, FOR THe: Pi.ifii'OSE OF AMENDING THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF KENAI CHANGING THE FILING GATE FOR COUNCIL CANDIDATES. WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Kenai desires to rescind Resolution 84-86, and WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Kenai, desires submission to the voters of a change in the Charter amending the filing date, and WHEREAS, these filing dates should coincide with the Kenai Peninsula Borough filing dates, and WHEREAS, the setting of filing dates could be set by ordinance and deleted from the Charter. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESDLVEO BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENAI, ALASKA, as follows: Section 1: Resolution 84-86 is rescinded. Section 2: That the following proposition shall be submit ed to the qualified voters of the City of Kenai at the October 2, 1984 regular election in substantially the same form as set out hereinafter: PROPOSITION Section 10-3 of the Charter of the City of Kenai reads as follows: "Any qualified person may have his name placed on the ballot for the election as a candidate for mayor or councilman by filing, not more than 60 days or later than 31 days prior to the election with the City Clerk, a sworn statement of his candidacy; provided that such sworn statement shall be accompanied by a nominating petition signed by 20 or more registered qualified city voters." r` - ~ - ~ f ~~ Resolution 84-113 Page 2 Shall such section be amended to rear: as follows: "Any qualified person may have his name placed on the ballot for the election as a candidate for mayor or councilman by filing, with tr-e City Clerk at times and pursuant to procedures provided by ordinance, a sworn statement of his candidacy; provided that such sworn statement shall be accompanied by a nominating petition signed by 20 or more registered qualified city voters."
