HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTION 1983-060Suggested by: City Council CITY OF KENAI RESOLUTICN NO. 83-60 A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENAI, ALASKA REQUESTING THE THIRTEENTH LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA TO SUPPORT AND PASS SB 268, SS 269, HB 320, HB 370 AND HB 371 GRANTING ADDITIONAL STATE ROYALTY OIL TO CHEVRON AND TESORO AND SEND THE MEASURE TO THE GOVERNORS DESK FOR HIS SIGNATURE. WHEREAS, this measure has already received the endorsements and support of the Resource Development Commission of the State of Alaska, the Department of Natural Resources of the State of Alaska, the Alaska Oil and Gas Association, the Governor and the State Administration of the State of Alaska, and as being in the best interest of the State and is in consonance with State law encouraging in -state processing of natural resources, and WHEREAS, Chevron and Tesoro have both shown good faith in their use of their present royalty allocations and in addition have built and currently operate refineries, asphalt plants, service stations and pipelines and other facilities and operations to the benefit of the State of Alaska, and WHEREAS, both of these corporations, Alaskan operations may be adversly impacted if additional royalty oil is not granted to them, and WHEREAS, the predominant economic base that exists in the State of Alaska is its natural resources and the State needs to find additional ways to process its natural resources in order to provide additional tax base and additional jobs for Alaskans, and WHEREAS, Tesoro's intention to build an $80-90 million addition to the Tesoro refinery is totally dependent upon receiving the additional royalty oil from the State of Alaska which in effect will be beneficial either directly or indirectly to all Alaskans, and WHEREAS, it appears there are a number of legislators who are not cognizant of the overall economic benefit to the State of Alaska by granting the request to Tesoro and Chevron for additional royalty oil who should be encouraged to support a measure that will have long-term economic benefits to the State of Alaska, and 1 WHEREAS, SB 268, SB :269, HB 320, HB 370 and HB 371 will provide additional industrial capacity that will have a far reaching positive economic impact on the State. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENAI, ALASKA, that the Thirteenth Legislature of the State of Alaska is hereby urged to support and pass SB 266, SB 2699 HB 320, HS 370 and HB 371 because almost every Alaskan will derive a positive economic benefit either directly or indirectly by the passage of this measure. Be it further resolved that immediately after the adoption of this resolution, the Clerk of the City of Kenai shall mail copies of said resolution to all members of the Thirteenth Legislature of the State of Alaska, the Governor of the State of Alaska, the Department of Commerce and Economic Development, and the Executive Director of the Alaska Municipal League.
