These figures are used to calculate State Revenue Sharing and Municipal Assistance Fund payments to municipalities. The department has set a deadline of December 1 for municipalities to provide us with population data. I urge you to take advantage of this opportunity. This is the best way to insure the accuracy of our population figures and to insure that your local government receives its fair share of state funding during the 1984 fiscal year. For municipalities that do not submit a current census or estimate by December 1, the department will have no choice but to rely on other methods to determine their population. Please share this letter with the municipal employee who is responsible for preparing population information. Municipalities with a population under 1,000 must take a house -to -house census to substantiate a local population estimate. Larger municipalities may do a census or prepare a Housing Unit Method estimate. The department's contact persons for population data are Doug Griffin and Netta Crago (465-47071 in Juneau. Technical questions should be referred to them, as well as population -reporting forms. Doug and Netta are most willing to assist local officials in preparing accurate population data upon which the department's population determinations will be based. Thank you for your cooperation and assistance in this matter. Sincere y, Fffith Director
