A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENAI, ALASKA CERTIFYIIJG
THE CENSUS OF THE CITY OF RENAI AS OF JULY 1. 1978
WI~REAS, the City of Kenai is in the process of submitting an application to
the State of Alaska for State aid to local grovernments, anti
WHEREAS, a portion of this application is based upon a populatior. ~4msus, and
WHEREAS, the approved population of the City as of 1 July, 1977 was 5.364 based
on 1 October, 1977 school enrollment and a 3.261 population per household factor,
and
WHEREAS, school data is not yet available, however. electrical connections within
the Renal City Light element (which does not include all parts of the City) of the
Homer Electric Association has increased from 1,340 on 30 June, 1977 to 1,638 on
30 June, 1978 and building permits for housing units in 1977 were 377 and, not -
withstanding a currently signi$cant vacancy rate of available horsing, there is
a logical inference of significant growth in the City of Kenai, and
WHEREAS, accepting the $gure of 5,364 as a base for 1 July 1977, and with the
population count of 3.261 per household with a discounted growth of 50'k of new
electrical connections, there is a growth of 1638-1340/2 = 149 active households.
At the factor of 3.261 there is a total population growth of 486. The sum of 486
and 5,364 is 5,850, and
WHEREAS . the Council of the City of Kenai is in agreement that this population
$gure is a reasonable estimate of the population count as of July 1, 1978.
NOW , THEREFORE , BE IT RESOLVED HY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENAL
ae follows: The population census of the City of Renal as of July 1, 1978 is 5,850.

Census Supervisor which states the preliminary population
count for the Kenai Peninsula Borough is 25,281, as of
July 31, 1978. Of this figure, 4,371 is for the City of
Kenai.
The final tabulation of the census shot:ld be received by
December 1. 1978.
