A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENAI SETTING A POLICY ON PROCEDURES
REGARDING THE RELEASE OF NEWS AND OTHER INFORMATIONAL ITEMS OF INTEREST TO THE
NEWS MEDIA AND THE PUBLIC AT LARGE
WHEREAS, the City of Kenai has no present policy regarding the release of news and infor-
mation and City personnel have been experiencing more complex requests for information,
and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the City of Kenai to have accurate and factual information
released and since all personnel do not always have all the facts at hand, acid
WHEREAS, City personnel need to have guidelines from the City Council to release such infor-
mation, and
WHEREAS, it is the intent of the Council of the City of Kenai to keep news media and the
public at large informed on a factual and accurate basis .
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENAI to hereby
establish a policy on procedures regarding the release of such information as outlined below:
Section l: City Attorney -all legal information which, if erroneously stated or mis-
represented otherwise could have adverse affects on the City of Kenai, will be issued by
the City Attorney who then will advise the City Council and City Manager of information released.
Section 2: City Clerk -Council minutes, resolutions and ordinances information, election
information and other items of interest as long as it does not conflict with the City Attorney or
the City Manager's responsibilities.
Section 3: City Manager -all other requests for news releases and information regarding
the City of Renai will be cleared through the office of the City Manager. This is not to say
that the City Manager has to be the one releasing the information but only that he be aware
of what is being released and by whom it f s being released .
The City Manager will release items of interest to the news media on a
regular basis so as to keep the public informed as to what the City is doing or in the process
of having done .
Section 4: Packets -Council packets containing a copy of the agenda, copies of resolutions
and ordinances and any other background information necessary for Council to conduct the
business of the City. These packets will be distributed to Council members only.
Mini-packets -these packets will contain a copy of the agenda and copies of
resolutions and ordinances only. They will be made available upon request.
