A RESOLUTION URCING THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES AND THE
CORPS OF ENGINEERS TO PERM17 OILWELL DRILLING OFF CAPE KASILOF IN COOK INLET.
WHEREAS, oilwell drilling in upper Cook Inlct has been in effect for 13 years; and
WHEREAS, this drilling has not been detrimental to that area; and
WHEREAS, the jackup platform John C. Martins drilled in the area off Cape Kasilof in 1967
with no ill effects; and
WHEREAS, shrimp ar~rs plentiful near those platforms now in existence in the upper inlet,
where they were unknown previous to drilling; and
WHEREAS, drilling, drill platforms, and fish are compatible an our Gulf Coast near
Louisiana and Texas; and
WHEREAS, the Keni City Council recognizes the importance ~f protecting the environment,
but aiso our economic base must be broadened with this continued oil activity,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE KENAI CITY COUNCIL:
1. ~'hat the State Department of Natural Resources and the Corps of Engineer§ issue
permits necessary to continue drilling in the area off C~pe Kasilof in Cook Inlet
2. That the State Department of Naturat Resources convey the intent of this resolution
to all other governmental agencies affected;
3. That copies of this resolution shall be sent to the Honorable Covernor William A. Egan,
Congres~ional Delegates Ted Stevens, Mike Gravel and Don Young, the U. S. Corps
of Engineers and the State Department nf Natural Resources.
