consequence of the major !~opulation concentrations in the
area as well as the hiqhest qear reaistration per fisli of
any eommercial fishery in the State;

f.ishermen caught 5.1 million dollars worth of. fish the potential
economic impact on the '_Cenai Peninsula - Mchoraqe P.rea
economv can be as much as $35,0~O,OOQ from the commercial fishina
alone;
WIIEREI!S the Cook Inlet sport fishery uenerates a.
source of income to businessmen involved with the sports
fisherv;
WIJ~RE71S the Anchoraqe economy derives ver~ valuable
stimulation ~rom both the sports and corunercail fi~hery
as a secondary supplier of the Peninsula economv;
t~~1~RF.AS population pressures alone need not of
necessity spell the denise of a fishe ry since in the Puqet
Sound area which enjoys a population density far in er.cess
of that of the Cook 'tnlet area, a via}.~le fisherv is beinq
maintained due to major emphasis on rehabilitation nad
enhanc+ement of that fishery;

incubation, stream and lake rehabilitation, and salt water
rearing seem ~o hold major promise for the enhancement of
our fisheries without constitutinq major expense to the State;
N1ti~REAS_approximately 83$ of the commercial fishermen in
the Cook Ir~let fishery are resic~ent Alaskans;
AE IT ItESl3Ll~D that the Cook inlet salmon fishery be
desiqnated for special emphasis bv the State;
B~ IT FUP.TIiI'R RESOLVI:D that this special emphasis take
the forr~ of a"gilot project" in which an inventory of all
s~awning streams and lakes be conducted and all available
techniques of enhancement and rehabilitation such as gravel
incubators, lake and stream rehabilitation and salt water
rearing be utilized in an effort to areatlv increase
the productivity of the Cook Inlet fishery;
BE IT FURTH~R 12~SOI,'Vrn that new monev be allocated
for the above purposes, such that other fisheries throughout
the State ivho may themselves be pressed for proper funding
will not be depriv~d of the funds necessary to sustain their
present proqrams.
