Q ~------. . ~ M ' , , ~ - ,~ . - ~__ _ ~ ~~ CITY OF KLNAI - RFSOLUTION NO. 71-2~ A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THAT THk UNITED STATES CONGRESS PASS THE ACCELERATEO PUSLIC WORKS SILL OVER TAE PRESIDENT'S VETO WHEREA3, the Congress of the United States has passed an pccelerated Pubiic Works Bilit And WHEREAS, the Presid~at of the Uefited States has vetoed safS Accelerated Public Worka Biilr and WHEREAS, passaqe of the Acaelerated Publia Works Sill is urgen~ly needed to fultill the policy of full employment prevfously endorsed by the Preaiderit of the Uaitad Statesf and WHEREAS, disasterous ur-esnployment conditfons exiat in many parts of tihe United States but particularly in the CfLy of Kenai and other parts of Alaska because of the Fe~eral Land Freeze i~posed oA Alaska, the withholdfng of permission to construct the pipe line to carry oii frrna the North Slope of Alask~ to Vaidez, aad the d~lay in pasaage of legialation before the United States Co~gress concerning Alaskan native ciaimss and WBEREAB, the City of Kenai is curreatly e~abarkad on nn extensive program of aewer and watfr extenaio~,~ to alleviate conditions threatening the hedith and welfare Qf the citi.zens of Lhis community as weil es the ecoloqy of the lo~al communitiy and is seekinq federal aid for these projectst ~nd WHEREAB, passaq~ of the Accelerated Public Works Bill would qive dd~itional aid, and lencl impetus, to this ambitious programt and WHE1tEA8, many other commuaitiea in the State of Alaska are faaed with aiaailar problema in Ex4:endinq services to qrowinq populationr~ and to persona of Alaekaa native groupa in and aroand s+~id communities who are niwe~ys first to suffer frodn unemployments and WHEREAS, the econamy of the State o!
