CUSTOMS OFFICE AT KENAI WHEREAS, the geographical location and facilities of Kenai Mutiicipal Airpnrt are such that it offers the flying public an all- purpoae, all-xeather airport whose potential has not been fully rec- ognized or utilized; and WHEREAS, it i$ the belieP of the City Couricil that Kenai Muriicipal Airport could aerve as a primary transportation l;nk in the development of the North Slope enterpriaes ~nd other Alaskax~ induatriea; and WALREAS, xha contiguity of Kenai Municipal Qirport to A~achcrage makea it, a suitable altei-nate airfield for many typea of Jet air traffic, :limit~d only by present runway length atid published grosa weight Pac'cora; and WHEREAS, the Federal Aviation Adminiatration is currently upgrading asaociated ae.vigational aids and the acope of its servicea to the publia; ead WHEREAS, the maxim~ua posaible utilization of Kenai Munic- ipal Airport will contribute directly to airport reveaues snd in- directly to the economy oP the Kenai Peninsula; and WHEREAS, the need for a Custonns Office in thia area is already tully ~uatified on the ba$is oP profected ahippfng ia the 1970-71 fiecal year of not~ le$s than 96 foreign flagahips and some 1,195,000 tons of freight, all requiring Customs clearance; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City oP Kenai hereby: l. Authorizes and direots the city administration to puraue e eu$tained publia relationa program through the nawa nredia, legialative bodies, Chambar oP Commerce groups, eervice organizatione, airlinea operatora, private aircraPt operatorn, marine transportation industries, and other conce rne d induatr3eg to encourage the eatablishm~nt of a U.
