RE(tUSSTING EMERGENCY REMOVAL CsF NAVIGATIONAL HAZAP.~S IN THE MOUTH OF
THE KENAI RIYER.
WHEREAS, the mouth of the Kenai River, near Kenai, Alaska,
is the site of increasing fisheries activities as indicated by a sal-
mon pack valued in excess of $5,000,000. in 1962, and
WHEREAS, navigation in and out of the Kenai River, which
is absolute necessity for fishing fleets, cannery tenders and freight
is a vital necessity to the commtmity of Kenai and surrounding com-
munities, and
WHEREAS, a formal request for emergency removal of naviga-
tional hazards should be directed to the Corps of Engineers, Alaska
District; and
WFII:REA5, the increased fishing activity in Kenai has made
more urgent the emergency nature of the removal of navigational hazards,
consisting of rocks off and in the mouth of the lfenai River,
THEREFORE, the City of Kenai, Alaska resolves:
1. That the Corps of Engineers, Alaska District, be requested
to utilize emergency funds available for removal of navigational hazards
on, and in, the mouth of the Kenai River as soon as possible. ~•
2. That the removal of the navigational hazards described
herein, be accomplished prior to commencement of the 1963 fishing season.
3. That the need for the removal of the navigational hazards
is documented by ordinary maps of the U.S.C.S. (it is not necessary to
use marine charts to ascertain the location of said hazards).
4. That copies of this resolution be distributed to the
Corps of Engineers, Alaska District, U. 5. Senators E. L. (Bob) Bartlett
and Ernest Groaning, and U. S. Representative Ralph Rivers, and to
State and other agencies having interests and responsibilities in navi-
gational facilities and needs.
