KENAI LIBRARY JUNE 9, 1971 ROLL CALL: Members present - Robert Bielefeld, James Doyle, Tru Me Grady, Robert Norene and Mayor John Steinbeck. Excused absence - James Hornaday and Hugh Malone. Mayor Steinbeck opened the meeting for a Public Hearing on the Budget 1971-72, and turned the meeting over to the City Manager, Edwin H. Glotfelty. Mr. Glotfelty asked if there were any questions they will be discussed as the budget is read page by page. Police Department 21-1. The dispatcher will not be utilized until the Public Sarety Building is constructed. The various departments will rent each piece of equipment assuming the Shop owns everything. Cemetery, 36-1. The Planning and Zoning Commission may want to move It toa different location but the City has an obligation to up -grade the present one. Fort Kena 41-1. The amount budgeted for Fort Kenay is aside from the Capitif Improvement Program. Recreation 44-1. A full time Recreation Director was budgeted to run a recreation program summer and winter. The major E. emphasis will be on children but there will be basketball, soft- ball etc. for adults. Kenai City Light 98-1. If the final agreement is approved, there will be a need for a Special Election for No. 1. authority for the Sale of KCL. No. 2. to grant a 30 year permit to HEA to operate within the City limits. Munici a1'Shop51-1. Al Hudson felt the City's need for a proper city Shop. Johnny Johnson commended the City Manager, the Finance Director and the Council on a good budget and for the reduction of the mill levy to 7 mills. The City has captured $1,276.000 in grants for the Capital Improve- ment Program. The Mayor closed the public hearing. The City Manager recommended $12,000 from the unappropriated surplus to be put into a fund for the Shop Maintenance Building. Being no objections it was so ordered. Meeting Adjourned 9:45 P.M.
