�:invtes for City Council, City of Kenai, Alaska, April 18, 1961,
8:15 p.m.
Members present: Stetzer, C. Swanson, D. l organ, Chet Cone, Tom
Hayes and Mayor Swanson.
Motion ti Stetzer, seconded by C. Swenson to pay the following
bills: 1�2.42 to Charles Peavley, 065.00 to Stanley McLane,
083.55 to Burton C. Biss., $12.27 to Kenai Korners.
Motion by Morgan, seconded by Stetzer to change Ordinance #3
to require 10 days before the election instead of 20 days to be
deadline for filing nominating petitions and declaration of
candidacy forms. Passed unanimously.
The Council passed a resolution to establish Hay 9, 1961, as a
special election.
The Planning Commission presented a recommendation that all prop-
erties within the city be zoned Residential.
Motion by Morgan, seconded by C. Swanson, that the Council concurr
with the Planning Commission regarding the approval of the
Valhalla Heights Subdivision. Passed unanimously.
Mr. and Mrs. Allan Petersen, representing the Civic League
organization, presented. the City of Kenai with the dded for the
Civic League properties which include the library building and
land surrounding it. Mrs. Petersen, also a representative of the
Library Board, wanted to be assured that the library would con-
tinue to use the building for supplying service to the community.
Motion by Stetzer, sedonded by Hayes, that the Library Board act
as custodian of the library room and that they may finance and
direct remodeling of the present furnace room and ba consulted
about the responsibilities for groups using the library room.
This motion was deleted by unanimous consent of the Council.
The Clerk was directed to write a letter to the Homemakerts Club
to determine if a time for meetings of both the Council and
Homemaker's could be worked out that would be mutually satisfactory.
Mayor Swanson declared the first 10 days of May to be "Kenai
Klean-Up Time" and that Kenai should brush up and clean up in
accordance with the Department of Commerce, Division of Tourism
and Economic Developmentts statewide campaign to clean up Alaska
for the forthcoming tourist season.
