HomeMy WebLinkAbout1961-05-02 Council MinutesMI E Minutes for Council meeting, Kenai, Alaska, May 2, 1961, 9:30 p.m. Members present: Morgan, Cone, Stetzer, Carl Swanson, :iayor Swanson. Motion by Stetzer, seconded by Carl Swanson to allow registration of voters at the polls on the day of the election, May 9, 1961, for special election only. The Clerk was directed to determine if this would not conflict with the Alaska Code of Laws and if this motion would not be prohibited, to abide in accordance at the polls. Motion massed unanimously. The Clerk was directed to contact Myron Cronce about dumping garbage in his dump area. This directive waa a result of the Mayor's Cleanup Campaign. Mr. Charles Peavley, Kenai Chief Police Officer, reported on the need for street signs. In connection with this report, a motion was made by Morgan, seconded by Cone, that the Police Department be authorized the sum of 9"500.00 for purchase of road signs. Motion•passed unanimously. Motion by Carl Swanson, seconded by Morgan, that the City of Kenai assume the liability insurance for both trucks and personnel connected with the Volunteer Are Department. Motion passed unanimously. There was a public discussion of the Kenai Power situation and as a result a motion was made by Morgan, seconded by Cone, that the Clerk write a letter to Mr. Rowley of the Kenai Powe4 Corporation asking why rates sb m4n in the proposed rate schedule were not applied fairly to all users, especially multi -dwelling users.
