Michelle . er, MMC, City Clerk Minutes of the Council Meeting of the City of Kenai, Alaska July 19, 1960 this recreation is a true and accurate December 31. 2024 Date of Certification Meeting was called to order by mayor John Swanson at 8:00 p.m. in the Civic Center building Roll call of members present: Mayor Swanson, Helen Jones, Carl Swanson, Dick Morgan and Chester Cone. Visitors present: Mr. & Mrs. Jeff Nicholas, Leo Chests and Lt. Rowe. The minutes of the previous meeting were read, corrected and approved. Old Business: Letter from Mr. Glen McKee was read by Mr. Morgan stating Mr. McKee's methods and charges as an Assessor. Report of Planning Commission: Letter written to Standard Oil Company requesting information on the cost of natural gas and the possibilities of getting it piped into Kenai. New Business: Letter from Mr. W.W. Row was read regarding the need for a conference between the City Council and the different departments of the State. Mr. Morgan made a motion that the City Water System be the facility of highest priority for City planning. Motion seconded by Mrs. Jones. Motion carried. Mr. Morgan made a motion that the sewer system be listed as the second highest priority for City planning. Motion seconded by Mrs. Jones. Motion carried. Mr. Morgan made a motion that acquirement of Natural Gas for the city be listed as the third highest priority on the City planning. Motion withdrawn until a cost analysis can be made. Mr. Morgan made a motion that a letter be written to the State Land Office requesting that Land previously requested by the Department of Education on the Homesite Lop Road be turned of to the City of Kenai. Motion seconded by Mr. Cone. Motion carried. Lt. Rowe who represents the Corps of Engineers was introduced and spoke regarding the survey of a deep draft boat harbor. It was suggested that a public meeting should be held in about 3 months with the public giving their views to engineers of why the dep draft harbor would be feasible, its benefits and possible cost. The annual benefit that the people in the whole area would derive from such a project should be brought out. Ordinance number "ONE" was presented by Councilman Morgan and read. Motion made by Carl Swanson that this reading would be called the First Reading of the Ordinance and a copy be sent to our attorney for his approval and corrections. Motion seconded by Mrs. Jones. Motion carried. Ordinance number "TWO" regarding sales tax was presented by Councilman Morgan and read. Motion made by Mrs. Jones that the City Clerk give a copy of all Ordinances passed by the Council to the Magistrate. Motion seconded by Mr. Morgan. Motion carried unanimously.
