HomeMy WebLinkAbout1960-08-02 Council Minutesr Kenai City Council Meeting August 2, 1960 1►Sirmtess Meeting was called to order by Mayor John Swanson at 8905 P.M. in the Civic Center Building. Roll call of members present: Mayor Swanson, Chet Cone, Richard Morgan, Carl Swanson, Helen Jones, and Tom Hayes. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and the correction made by Mr. Morgan to include the word +unanimously' to be usea when the r motion was unanimously passed, as it is unnecessary to list the names of Councilmen when there are assenting and dissenting votes. Min- utes then stood corrected and approved. r Mr. Talmage Nelson tram the Land Classification Office, State Div- ision of Lands presented land Status maps and discussed potentials for residential, recreational, industrial classifications for state held lands within the Kenai City Area. State Land in the City area may, be leased by the City frca the Mate. Mr. Talmage Nelson ended his talk with a request for the council to classify State held lands so they may be so classified for the City's preference. ! Old Businesss A letter was read from Mr. Biss, City Attorney, and a rough draft of the Organizational Ordinance, from Mx. Bias, was given to R each council member to be discussed at the next meeting. A letter from the Department of Puolic Safety, Juneau, concerning Fire Fighting and safety measures was read. Dick Morgan motioned the letter to ne refered to the Volunteer Fire Department. Helen Jones seconded the motion. The motion was unan- imously passed. Three letters were read Kram Standard Oil of California, Robinson, Mc Caskey and Savage, and Un3.on Oil of California with requests for j more information frcm the Planning Commission. Mayor Swanson requested a letter of welccme and invitbation to meet with the Council and discuss the plans for gas distrnbution in the area. Motion was seconded by Helen Jones and unanimously passed. �Y Mr. Morgan motioned that the city attorney ue contacted to see what I; the exact status of school sections is, with,the question of advis- j _ W-Lity of Kenai School District constructiAI& schools on an 80 acre tract in a school section. Chet Cone seconded the motion and it was unanimously passed. New Businesss Mr. Cone reported request by Mr. Stewart for information re- garding School Board Election. Dick Morgan reported he had given Mr. Stewart the inoormation requested. Kenai City Council Meeting -2- August 2, 1960 (Cont.) Visitor, Mr. Joseph Wilson, requested a letter iron the Council be written to the Bureau of Land Management concerning the 41 annlica- tions for I-aase Zo.;• sale of small tracts in Section °µ with the re- quest that leases be issued to annlicants that they may proceed with building. Helen Jones motioned a letter be written to the Bureau of Land Man- agement that the annlica;,_on for leases in Section 34 be issued. Motion was seconded by Dick Morgan and was unanimously passed. Visitor, N r. Little, requested that punch boards be licensed to o.ner- ate in Lne City 01 Kenai. Chet Cone m•,-.ioned the City Attorney be contacted on the licensing of punch boards and requesting him to propose a system of control and prover operation of the punch board 'business.
