HomeMy WebLinkAbout1960-09-27 Council MinutesMinutes or the meeting of the Kenai City Council Sentem ber 27, 1960 Mayor Swanson called the meeting to order at 8:30 P. Y. Members present were Mayor Swanson, Carl Swanson, Chet Cone, Helen Jones Rail Dobehok, Dick Morgan. Old Business: A letter from Floyd Guertin, Commissioner of Administration regarding the property in Kenai formerly occupied by the United States Marshal was read. A letter from the City of Seward regarding the use of the City of Seward jail was also read. A discussion followed the reading of these letters. It was decided to find out what the minimum standards for a jail in Kenai are. As a temporary measure to take care of any prisoners Mr. Morgan made a motion that the council work out an agreement with the City of Seward. Motion seconded by Mrs. Jones. Motion carried unaminously. A letter was read from the Alaska Court System regarding the service of Mr. Jess Nicholas as City Magistrate, Mr. Nicholas also had a letter with three suggested plans for the time and pWment of such services. A short discussion was held then this was tabled until after a meeting of the executive board of the council. MW A letter from the Division of Lands in answer to a regw st informed the council that regulations governing classification of lands doss not provide for classification as being plight industrial". The City of Kenai can regulate the use of such lands by Zoning. New BWk mess: firs. Jones made a motion that a letter be written to the Camorissioner of Revenue concerning the refund of licenses. Motion seconded by 'fr. Cone. Motion carried unaminously. liar. Cone made a motion that a letter be written to the BIAS regarding the garbage dump. Motion was seconded by Mrs. Jones. Motion carried unaminously. Mayor Swanson announced a meeting of the Civic League on October 3rd and asked that the council members attend if possible. A discussion on snow removal was held. Mr. Dolchok was asked to secure a bill on equipment for the city from Mr. Arness and the discussion would be continued at a future meeting. The acting city clerk was instructed to accept money in payment of taxea. k6ww leaf/ Mr. Jess Nicholas mentioned that he had received a'iettsr from the president of the Title and Trust Company stating that two subdivision plats had been filed illegally after incorporation.
