ROLL CALL e 4~ Present: Wizniewski, Hultberg,.Miller, Nelson, and Sheldon Absent: Nugent, Saling, both excused Also Present: Councilwoman Bailie and City Manager Bill Brighton AGENDA APPROVAL Agenda approved as submitted PERSONS PRESENT SCHEDULED TO BE HEARD None APPROVAL OF MINUTES of April 16, 1984 Minutes were approved as submitted .5. OLD BUSINESS a. Wooden Trash Containers Chairman Wizniewski reported on wooden trash containers to be made by Pierce Bassett. Approximate cost is $100 each and would like to have 6 - 8 out and a~ound the City this season. The consensus of the Committee is to wait until a firm cost can be determined before proceeding. b. Placement of Wooden Planter Boxes Discussion was to whether.local businessmen would sponsor a flowe~ box. Boxes will be available this weekend at the mall, the Garden Club will display 1 box fo~ Mother's Day. Question as to what should be included on the questionnaires. Sample items on the questionnaire: name of item -City of Kenai Beautification Plante~ - box numbe~ - would they be interested in sponsoring a planter box? Cost is $125 which would include maintenance of box, planting, cost of making box. Trinity Greenhouse wants to have the boxes by May 21st. They will be ready to put back out by 3une 8th. They will be set up on various corners. The Committee discussed other circle planting and decided on the triangle lot in front of Time Saver. BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE May 8, 198~ Page 2 c. Other 3obs for Beautification Workers M~. McGillivray is looking fo~ summe~ workers and is in ~he process of going through some of ~he applications. The Committee discussed what they expect of ~he workers assigned to them: ~rash bar~els ~o be picked up once a week watering of flowers as needed before cut~ing g~ass - pick up garbage edging of curbs 6~ NEW BUSINESS a. Other Areas for Flowers around City Hall in certain areas in f~ont of Time Save~ around the Rec Cente~ b. Voluntee~ Labo~ - Lette~ of Intent Diane Taylor of the Auduban Society has not responded since the last meeting. Ms. Taylor had volunteered the efforts of ~he Society in areas such as watering and plant ca~e & maintenance. 7. PERSONS PRESENT NOT SCHEDULED TO BE HEARD None COMMITTEE QUESTIONS & COMMENTS The Committee discussed the "tamp law" which is going into effect in Anchorage. The law requi~es that vehicles which a~e transporting materials to the dump must be covered b¥'a tarp. Discussion ~ega~ding M~. Lowe~y and his new mai1. Concern expressed ove~ his raping of the wilderness. He has to come back with a landscaping pian. Section }6 was b~ought up as to beautification concern.
