PERSONS PRESENT SCHEDULED TO BE HEARD a. M~. Dave Curtis Mr. Curtis explained that he is a resident of Redoubt Terrace $/D and when that subdivision was platted, it showed a pathway to the beach and a cleared area. Mr. Curtis wanted to know iff the pathway and cleared area were City, and if so, would the Committee be interested in including ~hat area as a part off the beautification project. It was determined ~hat the pathway and cleared area were in~ended for use of ~he residents of the subdivision only. Mr. Curtis will pass the wo~d along ~o ~he o~her residents. APPROVAL OF MINUTES of May 8, 1984 The corrected minu~es were approved as submitted. OLD BUSINESS a. Placement of Plante~ Boxes The Committee discussed the most conspicuous points in the downtown a~ea fo~ the wooden plan~er boxes and listed the following locations: 2 boxes in f~ont of Ca~s Mall; 2 boxes in front of both gas statlons on Willow; 2 boxes in f~ont of the Locko Building; 2 boxes in front of the post office; 2 in f~ont of ~he publlc safety building; 2 a~ the corne~ of Spu~ and Maln in f~ont of the Pines; 2 at the co~ne~ of Spu~ and Main in f~ont of Teso~o; 2 nea~ the Vet Cen~e~; 2 at the Senio~ Citlzens building: and 2 at the corne~ of ~he Blue Sta~ Memorial. Committee Membe~ Sheldon volunteered the use of Dan's TV delivery vans for picking up the boxes and placing them. BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE 2une 5, 1 Page 1 ~, ..... Add!rio.ri.a! ..... C..!~'c..le ..Plan.t.,,ing The target areas chosen for future planting include: in f~ont of the Church of ~he New Covenant; in fron~ of R~operty Wo~ld; in front of Dan's TV; in fron~ of Time Saver; and in f~ont of Obe~ts. The Committee went on to discuss other areas that will be unde~ consideration in the future. One place unde~ consideration will be the wooded strip along Lawton between Walke~ & Rogers. MOTION: Committee Member Nelson moved to inform the Planning Commission ~hat the Beautification Committee support~ the rezoning of Lawton Acres from RS to Conservation and further that the a~ea be ~eclaimed in the fo~m of seeding and barricading to prevent further damage by ~-wheelers, seconded by Committee Member Sallng. VOTE: Motion passed unanimously. The Committee discussed a developmen~ plan for the triangle area in f~ont of the Tlme Saver. Committee Membe~ Nelson suggested getting a proposal from a nursery such as T~inity on developing thls portlon. Chairman Wizniewski p~oposed a voluntee~ group put together a wooden gazebo, the funds fo~ ~he materials to be solicited f~om community g~oups with perhaps matching funds from the City if the Counc11 should decide to move ahead with the idea. MOTION: Committee Member Nelson moved to request that some type of ~raffic con~rol to keep vehlcles (including ~-wheelers) from runnlng across the t~iangle s~rlp in f~ont of the Time Saver, seconded by Committee Member Sheldon. VOTE: Motion passed unanimously. c. Additional Trash Barrels Art McComsey was to take the barrels over to Enstar to be painted, Chairman Wizniewski has not heard any progress on that as yet. The additional barrels will be placed in Old Towne and on the bluff lookout. The Committee reviewed the new wooden trash containers that have been proposed to be placed at City buildings. The model presented as an example included all options that would be available. BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE 3une 5, 1984 Page 2 MOTION: Committee Member Nelson moved to recommend purchase of 1 container with khe a~h t~ay at $181.00 and the ~est as described at $162.00, seconded by Committee Member MiIle~. VOTE: The~e were no objections. d. Discussion: Landscapi..ng A~ound City Buildinqs The Senio~ Citizen's Center looks g~eat, p~obably no additional landscaping ~equired and is maintained by the director. The Recreation Cente~ is in bad need of landscaping. Kayo McGilliv~ay had informed the Committee ~hat ~he Rec Cente~ c~ew would be willing to maintain any foliage the Committee could spare, it was agreed that when pian~s a~e picked up at T~inity, some would be d~opped off for ~he Rec Cente~. City Hall is in need of some shrubs or plants, howeve~ ~here is a problem with wate~ as no outside sources are nearby. 6. NEW BUSINESS None ?. PERSONS PRESENT NOT SCHEDULED TO BE HEARD ® COMITTEE QUESTIONS & COMMENTS The secretary pointed out the draft Landscaping Ordinance before the Committee and asked fo~ comments o~ questions. It was also'noted that the Planning Commission wouid be hoIding a pubIic hea~ing probably around 3une 27th. The Committee reviewed the draft. 9.
