ROLL CALL 0 Present: Wizniewski, Miller, Nelson, Sheldon Absent: Hultbe~g, Nugent, Saling PERSONS PRESENT SCHEDULED TO BE HEARD Mrs. Gladys Routh is a member of the Kenai Garden Club and had requested a meeting wi~h the Committee to discuss to areas of concern: - Flower planting in designated areas - Welcome to Kenai Sign The Committee firs~ discussed ~he issue of plan~ing flowers. Mrs. Rough s~a~ed ~ha~ ~he Garden Club had ~radi~ionaily pian~ed flowers a~ ~he Biue S~ar Memorial and ~his year, ~he City pIan~ed a circie fiower bed ~here. I~ was explained ~ha~ since no~hing had been done in a coupie years, ~he City wen~ ahead and pianted ~here. Mrs. Rough was invited ~o a~end Committee meetings ~o combine beautification efforts ra~her ~han overiap. Mrs. Rough agreed. I~ was agreed ~ha~ since ~he parks crew was doing such a good job of maintenance of ~he flowers plan~ed ~his year ~ha~ they wiII continue ~o care for ~hem and ~he fIowers pian~ed by ~he Garden Club. Councilwoman Bailie explained to Mrs. Routh that the Council has not approved the sign as yet, however a design has been done and a price has not yet been quoted. The sign is slated to be placed on the Spur Highway near Ridgeway at the City Limits. BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE June 25, 1984 Page 2 The Committee reviewed the memo from Mr. Labahn regarding the triangle lot in front of Time Saver. Councilwoman Bailie requested a report from Mr. Labahn with more details. The~e a~e 5 mo~e k~ash containers available f~om M~. Bassett. I~ was noted thal the p~ce is $85 as compared to $100 elsewhere. MOT I ON: Committee Membe~ NeIson moved to ~equest purchase of 5 mo~e t~ash containers f~om M~. Bas~et~ at a p~ce of $85 to come .out of the '84-85 budget when available, seconded by Committee Membe~ Sheldon VOTE: Motion passed unanimousI¥ MOTION: Committee Member Sheldon moved to request 2 to ) more circle plantings, 5 additional planters plus the flowers and dir~, the amount unspecified at ~h~s t~me, ~o come ou~ of the '84-8~ budget, seconded by Committee Membe~ Nelson VOTE: There was no objection The Committee discussed the landscaping ordinance and the fact that the ordinance addresses new businesses, which is ~eally unfair since there are several older established businesses that a~e just as much in need of landscaping or at least cleanup.
