ROLL CALL 2~ ® P~esent: Wisniewski, Hultbe~g, Mille~, Nelson, Saling, Sheldon Absent: Nugent - Unable ~o make iunchtime meetings AGENDA APPROVAL Agenda approved as submitted PERSONS PRESENT SCHEDULED TO BE HEARD None APPROVAL OF MINUTES of August 28, 1984 Change date f~om Decembez' 17th to Sep~embe~ 17th Minutes approved with co~ection OLD BUSINESS a. Christmas Decorations Ai~-Tek has indicated that they will put the b~ackets up on the light poles, donating the t~uck to do the installation, the man hours to be figured at 2 hours pe~ pole, $34.00 pe~ hour; the t~ansfo~me~s ~ 100 watts at $20.00, a ballpark Figure being $i00 pe~ pole, 40 poles. It had been mentioned that the City would pick up the cost of the lighting to the decorations. Keith Ko~nelis stepped into the meeting and stated that the City Manage~ would have to be contacted and perhaps the Councii since it would entail appropriating funds. Committee Member Hultberg asked if' Air-Tek maintains a crew during the winter, Mr. Kornelis answered that they do. The other concern is attaching and removing the decorations. Mr. Kornelis stated that if they are too high, the~e is no equipment that would ~each very high and that the high jobs a~e contracted out, and suggested that the decorations be placed high enough to avoid vandalism, and that possibly what the c~ews could do is stand in the bucket of a loader to attach them if they were around 10' to 12'. M~. Kornelis explained that what Ai~-Tek would probably do is to Find the location of the wires, drill a hole and splice the box into the wi~ing that will allow the decorations to be plugged in and a t~ansfo~me~. Keith noted the maintenance on the decorations, changing bulbs, etc. BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE Sep¢embe~ ii, 1984 Page 2 The salesman had indicated that the decorations would be suitable for high ~ind and extreme cold conditions with maintenance at: a minimum. The nex~ p~oblem is ~he budget and money available. At the kime ~he budget was done, the cost of hookup, etc., was unknown. The best way to go right now, would be to go with fewer decorations but set up the poles so that decorations could be added each year and concentrate on doing the poles without providing for buildings as earlier considered. Locations would be along the Spur, Willow, and the airport. MOTION: Committee Membe~ Nelson moved to ~equest the money fo~ the necessary electrical work fo~ ~0 poles, and ~he decorations as follows: 15 8' ver~icaI t~ees, Iighted; 15 9' beIi, lighted; i 4~ wreath at $268, lighted; 1 i2' "Spi~al Fantasy T~ee" a~ $9~9.25 for Airpo~[; poie ~rim a[ $25. pe~ pole for ~0 poies, the b~ackets fo~ the poles be shipped immediately; To[al Approximateiy $8,872, f~eigh~ not inciuded, ~he f'igu~es based on the 20 uni[ cos~, seconded by Committee Member Saling. It was noted that should costs exceed the amount figured, it will be left to the discretion of Chairman Wisniewski to cut the list without contacting the rest of the Committee. This list is subject to confirmation from Valley Decorating as to availability and freight costs. VOTE: Motion carried unanimously. MOTION: Committee Membe~ HuI~be~g moved ~o ~equest a speciaI appropriation f°o~ an addi~iona! $4,000 (approximately $100 each pole) ~o ~nstall powe~ to 40 i~gh~ poIes, the work ~o be done by A~-Tek as s~a~ed above, seconded by Committee Membe~ Mille~. VOTE: Motion carried unanimously. MOTION: Committee Membe~ Nelson moved to ~equest 10 addit~onaI b~acke~s fo~ ~he ilgh~ pole~, seconded by Committee Membe~ Sheldon VOTE: Mo~ion carried unanimously. b, ....... Cer_tificates' of .Appreciati..o.n- The Committee discussed the letters of appreciation and request they be sent soon. BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE 5eptembe~ 11, 1~84 Page ~ c. Plante~ Boxes The Committee noted that, while the flowers are still out and ~he ~eathe~ is stilI nice, they do need watering o~ they wilI die before iong. The c~ews a~e aiI gone but it shouid be noted that next year one person shouid be ~etained on the c~ew to work beyond ~he beginning of schooi, even if its only afte~ schooI fo~ a couple hours, it wouid help. It had been suggested that the head of the beautification c~ew come to the Committee meetings so that person would know the needs of the Committee, but that person never appea~ed. It ~as noted that the plante~ boxes will p~obably need staining in the sp~ing before being piaced out, after being sto~ed through the winter. Again, since Kayo is so busy du~ing the summers, the idea of one person invoived w~th the Committee wouId be a good idea. d, ....... T~anspianti.ng~T~ees There will be a discussion with Council and Planning & Zoning Wednesday evening about transplanting the ia~ge~ trees. Committee discussed pIacement and type of t~ee. 6. NEW BUSINESS The Committee discussed the need fo~ additionaI members, several members who do not wish to ~esign, but fo~ various ~easons cannot attend on a ~eguIar basis. The Committee agreed to ~equest Mayor Wagone~ appoint 2 additional members to the Committee. 7. PERSONS PRESENT NOT SCHEDULED TO BE HEARD None COMMITTEE COMMENTS & QUESTIONS None 9.
