ROLL CALL Present- Committee Members Walter Them, Gladys Routh', Marion Nelson, Roseanna Shelden and Sue Carter City of Kenai Representatives- Kayo McGillivray & Jeff Labahn Also Present: Mr. Ron Kasprisin, Kasprisin Design Group · AGENDA APPROVAL - Approved as distributed 3. PERSONS PRESENT.SCHEDULED TO BE HEARD - moved to last item on ag cnda. · Minutes of the March 26th meeting were approved as distributed. 5. OLD BUSINESS 1. Budget - Flowers & Planter Boxes- Discussion followed pertaining to the acquisition of an addi.tional flower boxes to be distributed throughout the City. Trinity Greenhouse is presently planting for 60 boxes-- will obtain pricing information from Trinity as soon as possible. Marion Nelson has.talked with the Kenai Jr. High School Woodworking teacher who indicates his group will build thirty flower boxes at a price of $3,0 each (materials only). Mrs. Nelson has also had discussions with representatives from the Wildwood Correctional Facility who also indicated they would construct the flower boxes and have informally agreed to the price ,of $30 each but in addition would request that the inmates be paid'S1.00 per hour for their services. There is approximately $3,000 remaining in the budget to cover costs of boxes, flowers and other need materials. MOT I ON: It was moved and seconded that the Beautification Committee · recommend the purchase of 30 boxes and such boxes to be built by the Kenai Jr. High School Woodworking students and/or.persons from the Wildwood Correctional Facility for a price not to exceed $30-35. QUESTION: M6tion passed unanimously. · Letters of Explanation- no action 3. Updated draft of Landscaping Ordinance- members of the Committee were advised that the Landscaping Ordinance will be intro- duced at the up-coming Council meeting of Wednesday, April 17th. Several changes have been made to the proposed ordinance and copies will be made available to members of the Committee. Though selected at the discretion of the Mayor and Council, it has beensuggested that a member of the Beautification Committee be selected to the Landscaping Review Board. MINUTES- Pag'e · PERSONS PRESENT SCHEDULED TO BE HEARD Mr. Ron Kasprisin, of Kasprisin Design Group, who has been selected to prepare a "Landscaping Master Plan" for the City of Kenai came before the Committee to discuss the concept and scope of the project as seen by members of the Committee .and expected services of his firm. Several items were discussed relative to the proposed plan including areas of concern (rights-of-ways, City owned properties Community Center area, etc.) After considerable discussions, and. direction from the Committee, Mr. Kasprisin advised that he 'would return to Kenai within the month (around the first part of May) with the first phase of the Master Plan. Mr. Kasprisin also advised that his con.tract with the City will .include two visits, not including today's presentation. Jeff Labahn discussed items in the contract between Mr. Kasprisin and the City of Kenai and indicated that a funding ordinance for the project will be presented for introduction at the April 17th meeting of the Council and is being considered for passage the same evening but must have unanimous' support from all Council members present at the meeting. There being no further business,, the meeting adjourned.
