5. OLD BUS I NESS
Secretary Loper ~eeeived a phone call f~om T~inity Greenhouse and
p~ison, both requesting info~mation on the flowers. T~inity
G~eenhouse needed to know if flowers were going to be o~dered this
yea~ and how many. The prison official staled that the p~ison green-
house was now ready for operations and desired info~mation ~egarding
the flowers and plante~ boxes (how many). Since both Councilwoman
Bailie and Directo~ McGillivray a~e out of town, the Committee
discussed going ahead wi[h the motion f~om the las~ meeting ~egarding
ordering the flowers fo~ next yea~, allowing a smalle~ po~lion for the
prison on a trial basis. The prison official, George T~aughbe~, felt
that the operation would be a small one.
MOTION:
Committee Membe~ Sheldon moved, seconded by Committee Membe~ Selby to
~ese~ve 10 of the ptante~ boxes for the prison to fill and to provide
the p~ison with the necessary flowers from Trinity
VOTE:
Motion passed unanimously

Vice Chair Nelson asked about the Blue Sta~ Memorial. It had been
mentioned last yea~ that the Garden Club planted and maintained that
section. Committee Member Selby, a member of the club will check and
return with a report. Secretary Loper asked to check with Public Works
r~ardira~ the utilities in both triangles (overhead wires)
6. NEW BUSINESS
a. Presentation of Banner Material
Heidi Snow of 3uneau, came to Kenai on February 20th to tout and take
pictures in order to prepare a group of designs that would be just for
Kenai. Mrs. Snow also left a sample banner, a group of slides, and
several boards depicting he~ designs. Most of her designs ave in ~he
3uneau Marine Ra~k area and have met with success. Mrs. Snow's
banners are guaranteed for 4 yea~s. Avetage cost is roughly estimated
at $300.
The owner of Inlet Imports was contacted and information ascertained
concerning her banner. The banner was made by High Flying Glags &
Banners in Seattle, are made of very much the same material, are
guaranteed for 5 yea~s, and are also roughly $~00.
Valley Decorating. has been contacted numerous times regarding, the
brackets on the light poles to ascertain if they could be adjusted to
allow' for an arm that would hold the banners. After over a week, no
answer has come from this company. Secretary Loper directed to
continue efforts to contact that company.
The Committee discussed placement of the banners. The~e are three
main a~eas for the banners, 1) the Spu~ Highway on the light poles, 2)
the Airport T~iangle in a g~ouping, and ~) the Downtown Triangle, also
in a grouping. Since the Airport Way construction wii1 take place
this .yea~ and the ~oad will p~obably be to~n up the summe~ months, and
..
landscaping p~obably won't be done untiI Iate in the summe~ o~ fall,
this point was eliminated fo~ now. The Committee next discussed the
poles fo~ the banners should the Committee decide on the Downtown
T~iangle. Poles have been donated in the past from the oll ~elated
companies when surplused or discarded. Committee ~ber Sheldon will
be contactin~ Mary Siekawitch to determine if the~e would be any poles
available.
The Committee agreed to hold decision until return of the pole and
bracket information, a cost estimate from Mrs. Snow, and information
regarding the utilities in the two triangle parks.
