APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Agenda approved as presented.

PERSONS PRESENT SCHEDULED TO BE HEARD
a. Sue Carter, Kenai Chamber of Commerce. Wanted to speak
regarding letter sent to the committee. Ms. Carter
explained the letter ' s intent was to ask if the
Beautification Committee would serve as the beautification
judging group. That was really the intent. In the mean
time, Ms. Carter has contacted the Merchant Association and
they have agreed to take this project on.
Chairman Wisniewski explained the committees feelings

Chairman Wisniewski would like to discuss this further at
the next Beautification meeting.
As for the annual clean up effort, Ms. Carter reported the
Chamber will continue to apply for grants, give out bags,
and the Lions Club will take on the organization of this
project. They are getting only 1500 bags this year due to
funding cuts, instead of the usual 2000 bags in the past.
Ms. Carter also wanted the committee to know that the
Chamber appreciates the efforts and the excellent job they
have done. They continue to receive compliments on the city
from people coming into the Chamber office.
4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES - February 24, 1987
The minutes were approved as presented.
5. OLD BUSINESS

6. NEW BUSINESS
a. Selection of Design for Veteran's Memorial - Mark
Winston. Mr. Winston reported that their committee met this
morning and have narrowed the selection down to 35 designs
and they felt they needed more time for final selection of
the five designs he wanted to present to the committee. Mr.
Winston passed around three designs for the committee to
preview. Costs and general discussion followed.
Mrs. Hansen was brought up to date on what the committee has
been working on and the plans for the Memorial Park
regarding the Veteran's Memorial.
Plaques, walkways, trees, size, landscaping and costs were
discussed further with different ideas and suggestions on
types and sizes. Chairman Wisniewski would like this
discussed further at the next meeting to decide procedures
needed to run the park once it is established.
b. Suzanne Little - Banners. Ms. Little asked the

committee for input into the type of investment they wanted
to make in this project. The committee advised Ms. Little
of the research they have done regarding the banners and
asked her if she would put a proposal together to see if
they could put this project together this year. Ms. Little
passed around several designs and explained types of
materials and the durability to the conditions for the Kenai
area. General discussion followed and Ms. Little will bring
a proposal to the next committee meeting.
c. Report - Alaska Corrections Industries. Specialist
Loper reported to the committee of a phone call received by
the City from Department of Corrections. The person she
talked with advised of the potential projects offered
through different programs within the Department of
Corrections. The money that is made will all go back into
the Department of Corrections.
